Hoop Dreaming Joins Day of Action Against Bullying
CAIRNS, AUSTRALIA - It doesn't cost anything to be kind. That was one of the key messages promoted at Parramatta State School's Stand Together Day celebrations, marking the 8th National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence.
The National Day of Action (NDA) is Australia’s key anti-bullying event for schools. Hoop Dreaming Founder Joel Khalu joined with National Rugby League legend Justin Hodges at the Cairns inner-city school this morning, speaking to students about strategies on how to respond and prevent bullying.
"Bullying in schools is a major issue and we all need to work together to help address it," Khalu said.
"We've seen in the media some of the terrible repercussions of what bullying can lead to and we have to stamp it out."
"We all want our schools to be safe and positive learning communities and that's why important that we continually encourage students to be kind to each other."
"Kindness goes a very along way and what we're educating these kids on today is that when you give out good to the world, usually good will also come back to you."
"By promoting the positive, hopefully we can help to reduce the incidence of bullying, whether inside the school gate or online," Khalu added.
In addition to addressing the Parramatta State School cohort while on assembly, Khalu & Hodges also conducted some basketball skills and drills with the kids.
